Heading to the gate
November 20 2008
The days start to melt together like a big clumpy mash. I don’t know what happened yesterday, which conversations I have had, when and which sail we put up and when I was going to repair which SAT C system. But what happened today, was just incredible, I remember every single moment. We made 4 spinnaker changes, the last one just in the last moment. We had to pack and stack all the sails 4 times. After a sail change I was completely exhausted. A reason for that is lack of sleep. I have slept just 4 hours over the last 48 hours. We try our best to get in front on this leg whatever it may cost. But today I made the decision to take a little bit of pressure off the people. Tiredness of all the crew is so obvious and that makes everything even more dangerous.
In the early evening the wind was shifting more to the right and around 21:00 we were able to gybe. Now we are heading to the north and in about 2 days it should get warmer. Our focus at the moment is to pass the 58. Longitude in 4th position and collect some more points. Both Ericsson boats and Green Dragon are a head of us on our way to the gate.
