Our three extra crew

A few weeks into leg one and it is time to come clean. We actually have three extra crew onboard Kosatka. Please allow me to introduce them:

“Somebody”, is arguably the busiest person onboard. I don’t envy his job. He is always getting the nastiest tasks assigned to him. “Somebody needs to clean the head today.” or “ Could Somebody please come down below and move the stack aft?” Boy this guy has his hands full. He is on watch 24/7 and we would definitely be lost without him.

Next is “Everybody”. This guy is the modern day super hero. Its blowing 40 knots and we need to get sails down, who do we call? “Everybody up!!!!” No tough task could even be contemplated without him. “Oh Oh, we’re in trouble here.... we are going to need Everybody for this one.” Wow, imagine being so good that you are saved for only the most difficult and life threatening jobs, and the rest is left to Somebody?

Last is” Nobody”. This guy is the silent achiever. “Somebody was asked to check up in the bow for water.” Reply, “Yes, but Nobody did it.” He is the one who gets blamed for everything. “Who finished the Tabasco sauce? Nobody could have done such a thing!!!” or “Who dropped the winch handle over the side?” Nobody owns up. He is also the source of all information. “Who knows where the toilet paper is? Nobody.”

How these three work together is also impressive.  Nobody covers for Everybody and Somebody all the time. Somebody gets Nobody in trouble a lot too. “Nobody use the media computer today please.” But Somebody tries to write an email and messes it all up.  “Everybody needs to cut back on gas consumption.” Nobody listens and gets Somebody into trouble.

I could go on all day describing these three but I will probably end up confusing myself. There jobs are intricately interwoven and for sure one would be lost without the other. I just hope we brought enough food for them too.
