In Port Practice
Team Russia lined up for the first time against its rival VO70’s in Alicante Bay for a precursor to Saturday’s in port race. As the boat set off from the dock to take part in the practice race, the electrics operating the canting keel system failed, which didn’t make the easiest of days for the crew onboard Kosatka (killer whale in Russian).
Skipper Andreas Hanakamp was upbeat about the day; “The boat was going fast and we were very happy with the speed upwind. The technical issues on board meant we had to manually cant the keel, so all considered I’m happy with our performance.
“For sure we learnt a lot today onboard and Mike Joubert our injured bowman was on a rib watching the race and gave us some really great feedback in the debrief. Now we’re looking forward to getting out there on Saturday, fully powered and ready to race.”
