Former Director of Race Operations of the Volvo Ocean Race, Michael worked for the race organiser from 1993 to 2002 having previously been in the British Royal Navy for 10 years. Before taking up the position of Team CEO he was working as a crisis management, emergency response and business continuity consultant primarily in the oil and gas industries.

Michael’s hobbies in addition to sailing include walking, diving and skiing. His worst moment sailing was a major broach /wipe out downwind with the biggest kite up in too much wind during the night on the 1981 St Petersburg to Fort Lauderdale race.  While his best moment sailing was at night in moon and star light in the tropics mid Atlantic.  He loves fish and describes himself as optimistic.
