Nick Bubb

Race Crew

Nick Bubb holds the position of watch leader and boat captain for Team Russia. Nick makes up one of the afterguard on the boat with responsiblity for the performance of the boat and managing his watch.  Nick also has the role of liaising between the boat and shore team and will look after below deck systems including hydraulics and engines.

Nick has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has extensive short-handed racing experience including four years of Mini Transat racing.

He took part in the Oryx Quest (non stop around the world) on Maxi cat Daedalus (ex ENZA) as wlll as sailing in Class 40’s for La Route du Rhum and Transat Jacques Vabre. Most recently he worked with Mike Golding on the Open 60 Ecover.  Nick’s hobbies include horse riding and road biking.  His worst moment sailing was during the Route du Rhum in 2006 (a singlehanded race), when he had to go up the mast mid Atlantic in 35 knots to fix rigging problems.  His best moment was finishing the Oryx Quest – he was only 25 at time and one of the youngest people ever to race non stop around the world.

He looks forward to a good tuna steak after long legs at sea and describes himself as outgoing, happy and positive.

Singapore here we come as battle rages throughout the fleet in the Malacca Straits

If by some fluke you are reading this Mr Woolgar or Mr Buck, my old Geography school teachers, I hope I’ve made you proud; I can promise you that I’ve mended my ways and no longer operate on ‘cruise control’, this is life at the extreme after all!!
