Tim Dean

Shore Crew

Shore Team manager, Tim Dean has a range of experience and qualifications that making him one of the most sough-after marine design engineers and project managers. His engineering and workshop experience, combined with his work ethic is key to running Team Russia’s boatbuilding and shore team.

Tim is best known for his design and management of many rig and standing rigging systems for many high-profile race yachts, but is achieving a reputation as a skilled engineer and innovative but practical designer in a range of marine applications.

He has been employed by rule making bodies for independent analysis and recommendations on rule making decisions. These bodies include the Volvo Open Rules for both Volvo 60’s and Volvo 70 Open design. His input has also been sought by both the RORC, IRM and IRC rules.

Wherever possible, Tim has sought to sail or test the stuff he designs and has covered the management and maintenance of Magnus Olsson’s 2001 Volvo 60 campaign ‘Assa Abloy’ and Ericsson’s VO70Round-the-World campaign alongside numerous America’s Cup and race boat campaigns. Tim lives near Southampton in the UK.
